What’s on the Menu for Late Summer

Summer is coming to an end and a lot of you (teachers and children) will be going back to school. BUT…., that doesn’t mean we can’t have a couple of last hoorahs!!!

On August 16th, Main Beach will be the place to be when the Dunes & Tunes Festival will take place. There will be a sand sculpting competition from 12pm – 3pm and then festival gates will open at 3:00pm with art exhibits, interactive play zones, giant waterslide, food trucks, concessions and amazing live music!!!Find more information Here.

Then, just a week later, on August 22 and 23, the 5th Annual Great Southern Tail Gate Cookoff will kick off on Main Beach with dozens of competing BBQ trucks and great live music. On Friday the gates will open at 3pm and music starts at 3:30pm with the country performers “Dirt Floor Crackers”, followed by southern party band “the Swinging Medallions”. Saturday morning the gates open at 10am and live music starts at 10:45am with “Rockit Fly”, followed by local favorites,”the Beech Street Blues Band” and closing by the “Bama Gamblers”. And then another 3 weeks later the famous Amelia Island Blues Festival will kick off on September 12 and 13 with a number of national and international blues giants on the roster. Since your innkeeper is one of the original founders of the festival, we always make this weekend special with music on the beach and BBQ in the courtyard. There are still some openings in our schedule for all 3 events, but they will go fest once the publicity machine starts.

AND REMEMBER…all three events are on Main Beach, walking distance from the Inn.

We had no reservation received (and certainly not confirmed), but fortunately we had a suite available. A 2 day trip by car had exhausted them a bit, so we quickly accommodated them into the Sea for Two suite, which happened to be the only suite available for several nights, a rarity as soon as Memorial Day has hit the calendar.

While pulling the luggage in Lawson pulls me aside and asks what is needed to get a marriage license on Amelia Island. Turns out that they had planned a last minute elopement wedding and his bride to be, who’s name is Amelia, wanted to get married on Amelia Island. After I tell Lawson the legal essentials, he tells me they would like to get married the next day, Tuesday the 27th in the late afternoon. No problem I say in my usual optimism as I grab the phone to call my friend Ronnie Stoots to make sure he is available to officiate the wedding. Ronnie doesn’t pick up so I leave a message detailing time and what is needed.”No worries” I tell Lawson, “I am supposed to see Ronnie tomorrow afternoon anyway for some business thingy, so I know he’s available.” Continue reading
